FIAR: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" is a poem written by the famous poet, Robert Frost.  I must say I was a bit hesitant to "row" this book as like fractions, poetry scares me a bit.  I suppose it is just because I never learned to appreciate and/ or understand it.  And aren't we all a bit skeptical/ scared/ hesitant to take on what we do not understand?

Anyhoooo....

This actually is not a complete row, but we rowed it anyways as I wanted to have a "lighter" week in preparation for baby #3's arrival sometime the week after.

We touched on:
  • What makes a poem
  • alliteration
  • rhyme scheme
  • penciled medium
  • viewpoint
  • mood of poem
  • winter animals/ camouflage
And onto the pictures of fun/ artsy stuff:

Popsicle Stick Snowflakes (with a Rhyming Twist):

In preparation for this activity I wrote a group of rhyming words on four popsicle sticks; Tyler was to read the words, group them, and then we used hot glue to make a snowflake.

Afterwords, the kids used glitter glue to dazzle them up!

And then we turned them into magnets for our fridge!

Played with "Snow" (aka Cloud Dough):

This is as close that we have come to having some "snowy" fun!
